PRC Boathouse Break In Sunday 12.9.12

I'm sorry to report that our boathouse was vandalized some time on Sunday (12.9.12.) Only the large boathouse was damaged. Both doors were ripped off and smashed, all of the center racks and some of the side racks were destroyed, and a number of the vertical planks on the river side were kicked in and broken. The cost of the damage is not excessive - maybe a few hundred dollars - but it will take some time to make the repairs. What's worse than the damage is the sense of vulnerability, of violation.

The sheriff has been called and should make an appearance today (she was not on duty yesterday). Our security camera had been removed prior to Tropical Storm Sandy, so no pictures of the mayhem, alas. I will keep you apprised of any developments.

Oliver, PRC President

I drove down to look at the mess mid day and also noticed that the ramp was tipped over though I doubt it was damaged. There are beer cans all over the place including up by the docks. They must have been there a while, the vandals, not the beer cans, and I wonder if anyone saw them. Oliver is correct, the cost of the damage is not great but repairing the damage will take some time to complete. Had the boats been inside...? Too bad the camera had been removed. God, this makes me angry.

Docks Out Saturday 11/10/12 at 10:00 a.m.~

Greetings:

Sincere thanks go to Kristin and all the students of the Putney School rowing team who helped this afternoon remove all boats from the boathouse and take down the roofs of both boathouses. Boats were de-rigged and loaded on the trailer, then moved to Graeme's shop. Roofs were removed, folded and transported to Potash. This flurry of activity was deemed necessary with prospects of several inches of snow mixed with rain due to be falling tonight and tomorrow. The smaller items left in the boathouse will be removed on Friday.

One wonders if PRC should now stand for Putney Rigging Club.

That leaves the mere task of removing docks on Saturday. Because so much was done today we feel confident in moving our the start of PRC member's work on Saturday to 10:00 AM with Putney School students arriving around noon to help with the heavy lifts of docks onto and off of the trailer.

The docks require a great deal of people power so please make the effort to come and lend your hand on Saturday.

Thanks for all your help!

Last week to row out of PRC for 2012!

Today we rigged the Banash, Dietz, Poppycock, Kennett, Kookaburra, and Dimples.

The river is moving quickly and there is a lot of debris coming down, so it looks like it will be another couple days before we can get back on the river. Mostly, it's fantastic to see that we weathered the storm without damage. (Thanks so much to the crew who worked so quickly and diligently)

These boats (and any private boats) will be available at the boathouse until November 9th, when we'll de-rig and empty the boathouse.

November 10th is still docks out and roofs off, so enjoy the last bit of rowing in Putney this season.

A reminder to club members that the Putney School will be using club equipment during our practice times: M, Tu, Th, Fri from 3:15 - 4:45 and Wednesdays from 1:45 - 3:15.

UPDATE: Evacuation 2012!

Sunday October 28, 2012 ~
Oliver, Carol, Graeme, Kendall, Lies, Peter, Michael, Jim Sweitzer and Jim Robinson de-rigged all the boats and moved all except Python to the shop. There is one private boat remaining in the small boathouse, not sure whose boat it is.

Monday (October 29th) morning at 9:00 Kendall and Jim R. will be at the boathouse to help Kristin and Putney School students put Python on the trailer. We will bring up the oars and the kayak. Looks like we have just about everything under control except the weather.

Please Remember:
Docks out still scheduled for November 10 - SAVE THAT DATE
We will need all hands on docks!!

Thanks, Jim

URGENT: evacuating boathouse NOW!

Greetings:

It has been decided to start evacuating the boathouses as of this afternoon (Sunday 10/28/12). We are concerned not so much about flooding as we are about strong, damaging winds causing damage to the boathouses. Please take this seriously.

All members with private boats are advised to remove your boat as soon as possible. If you cannot get down to boathouse to do so please let me know so
arrangements can be made to get your boat out.

We need help from members doing the following:

1)  As of now we will be starting to de-rig boats down at the river. There will be a skeleton crew working this afternoon and more hands are needed.

2)  The trailer is presently away at the Head of the Fish regatta and will return later today. If in fact it returns before dark we can load boats onto it today. If not we will be doings so in the morning (Monday).

Additional information will be sent out later today informing you of what our needs will be tomorrow.

Please stand by!

Thanks for all your help.

Halloween "Pie Regatta" October 31st AND More!

The Putney School kids are heading off to the Head of the Fish on the weekend of October 27th/28th and we'll be taking two doubles and four singles from the PRC Boathouse.

I wanted to invite folks to join us for a Halloween "Pie Regatta" for fun on October 31st at 2 pm. We'll have a pie for the winner in the single and double event and there will be cider and donuts for competitors. We'll do the Green Mountain Head course.

November 7th we'll be doing a team Row to Brattleboro, leaving at about 1:45/2:00. We'll take mostly doubles and quads. The launch will accompany the boats and then we'll have a trailer in Brattleboro to bring boats back. Let me know if you're interested in joining us for the row.
