Read More... 2013 Samsung World Rowing Cup I In the first international event of the season, the United States won medals in five of the six events it entered at the 2013 Samsung World Rowing Cup I March 22-24 at the Sydney International Regatta Center in Penrith, Australia. The U.S. won silver in the women’s pair, women’s quadruple sculls, women’s eight and men’s eight, and bronze in the women’s single sculls. Save the Date April Safety Feature / Willie Black A novice crew was warming up for its first collegiate sprint race. It was the end of the spring break training trip and were all primed and ready to go. The warm-up was going great, the rowers were focused on executing the planned warm-up, and the coxswain was making sure that they were focused and hitting their ratings. There was nothing between them and their first victory. Well, almost nothing. Actually, it was a 1,000-pound steel buoy, painted bright green, and it even had a little light on top, but they still hit it dead on. Read more... April 27 9:00 - 12:00 - DOCKS IN!

The Docks In date will be on 

Saturday, April 27 from 9:00 - 12:00 

(with Sunday the 28th as the rain date.)

Docks will be set in the river, boats will arrive at the boathouse to be rigged 

as well as many other tasks to complete the opening of the rowing season. 

You are asked to come and join the rest of the membership in this morning's work detail.

You will receive 3 hours credit towards your volunteer commitments for 2013. 

And here is the sweetest part of the deal . . .

Immediately following the work you are invited to a Pot-Luck lunch on the docks. 

So bring some food and beverage to share and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

PRC Boathouse Break In Sunday 12.9.12

I'm sorry to report that our boathouse was vandalized some time on Sunday (12.9.12.) Only the large boathouse was damaged. Both doors were ripped off and smashed, all of the center racks and some of the side racks were destroyed, and a number of the vertical planks on the river side were kicked in and broken. The cost of the damage is not excessive - maybe a few hundred dollars - but it will take some time to make the repairs. What's worse than the damage is the sense of vulnerability, of violation.

The sheriff has been called and should make an appearance today (she was not on duty yesterday). Our security camera had been removed prior to Tropical Storm Sandy, so no pictures of the mayhem, alas. I will keep you apprised of any developments.

I drove down to look at the mess mid day and also noticed that the ramp was tipped over though I doubt it was damaged. There are beer cans all over the place including up by the docks. They must have been there a while, the vandals, not the beer cans, and I wonder if anyone saw them. Oliver is correct, the cost of the damage is not great but repairing the damage will take some time to complete. Had the boats been inside...? Too bad the camera had been removed. God, this makes me angry.
